Are chickpeas good for vegans?
Yes, they are! In fact, chickpeas are one of the top foods that provide more protein than an egg, plus, they’re also loaded with fibre and other important nutrients. Making chickpeas part of your plant-based diet is a decision you’ll most likely not regret.
What are the disadvantages of chickpeas?
Despite being an amazing source of some macronutrients, there are also risks associated with the consumption of chickpeas. Ingesting raw or even cooked chickpeas can lead to gastrointestinal problems, but on the whole chickpeas are considered safe for human consumption.
What dishes can be made from chickpeas?
You can toss them in salads or some orzo, munch on some roasted ones as a snack, fry some falafels, churn them into some hummus or add them to sauces, stews, curries or soups. Your plate is like a canvas and your ingredients are the paint, so remember to get as creative as possible!
Are chickpeas fattening?
Not necessarily. From a macronutrient point of view, there are less than five grams of fat in 1.5 cups of cooked chickpeas (one 15oz can) which is, by and large, slightly higher than many other pulses, but far less than other healthy legumes like soybeans and peanuts. As with most foods, it’s your overall calorie intake that is the main determinant of whether or not you gain or lose weight.
