Ingredients

Fresh Strawberries: Use ripe but firm strawberries as they are best in salsa recipes.Red Onion: Adds crunch, flavor and texture to the salsa. You can use yellow or white onion as a substitute, but I prefer red onion as it tastes best in salsa recipes.Jalapeno: Seeds and ribs removed and finely chopped. Cilantro: Chopped cilantro adds hint of freshness and flavor to the salsa.Lime Juice and Lime Zest: You just can’t have a delicious salsa without fresh lime zest and juice.Maple Syrup: Adds hint of sweetness and balances the tanginess.Olive Oil: A dash of good quality olive oil adds nice flavor to the salsa. Salt and Pepper: build up the flavor, don’t skip at all.

How to make strawberry salsa?

To start with, in a small bowl, combine a good quality olive oil, lime juice, lime zest, maple syrup, salt and pepper and whisk well. In a large bowl, add chopped strawberries, chopped red onion, chopped jalapeno and chopped cilantro. Pour the prepared dressing and toss well. Adjust the seasonings, only if needed (you can add more lime juice, salt or maple syrup as per your taste). Allow the salsa to rest in the fridge for 10 minutes before serving.

Expert tips

Strawberries: Pick fresh, ripe and juicy strawberries that are firm and sweet but not soft. I would not recommend using frozen strawberries for this salsa as they will have too much moisture and turns soft when thawed.Jalapeno: Use it as per your preference for spice level, leave some seeds if you prefer more heat in your salsa recipe. You can also use serrano pepper, habanero or green chili as a substitute for jalapeno.Cilantro: If you don’t like cilantro, swap it with some chopped fresh mint or fresh basil to make this salsa.Lime Juice: Avoid using bottled lime juice to make this salsa, use fresh lime juice for the best taste.

Feel free to jazz up this delicious strawberry salsa with any of these below listed fruits or vegetables as a variation or add-ins:

More Fruits: Diced or chopped mango, avocado, pineapple, peach, nectarines, kiwi, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries.Vegetables: chopped cucumber, yellow or red bell peppers, grilled corn.
