Let me present to you a really cool brownie recipe that even a three year old can pull off. Literally. To prove my point I got my nephew Artur to take the lead on this brownie baking project. Luckily enough, he was happy to help me out. Right, let’s dive into the directions. You’ll need a pot to melt the bar of chocolate in about 70ml of olive oil. You can do that on a low heat – so far, so easy. Valentine’s Day looks saved already. When you see the chocolate is melting, turn off the heat. Get three ripe bananas and throw them into the pot. Now mash them with a fork. That’s right; a fork is all you need. No hand mixer or anything like that is required. You’re welcome. Next, let’s sneak in some protein. Obviously you’ll eat at least two thirds of the brownie yourself and you don’t want to leave out the opportunity to add some foods for muscle growth. Thus, throw in 3 eggs and 4 tablespoons of yogurt. Again mix well. Now get another bowl and add about 150g of all purpose flour (about 1.2 cups) and 50g of chocolate powder (about half a cup). You can get special chocolate powder for baking, which would be awesome. Don’t worry, if you buy a pack you can use the rest for hot chocolate milk or even add it to these wicked banana egg pancakes. If you don’t want to use/buy chocolate powder for baking, you can get some regular ol’ chocolate powder like Nesquik or use 50g more of all purpose flour. Don’t forget to stir the baking powder into the flour! Otherwise your brownie will stay as flat. Now slowly stir the flour mixture into the pot. Make sure that it doesn’t get lumpy. You don’t actually need two people to pull this off. Just stir. Finally, we need to sweeten up the brownie a little. After all it’s a sweet. Stir in 3 tablespoons of honey or 100g (about half a cup) of brown sugar. Also, if you have them, add some chocolate chips. You might as well grab them while you’re looking for the chocolate powder for baking. Then give everything a final stir. Find a baking tray and give it a quick clean before you use it. Fold the mix into the tray and even everything out nicely. Then off it goes into the oven for 30 minutes at 200°C (400°F). The tray is light enough to handle for one person, BUT get someone to carry it with you. It’s better for your back. Now sit back, have a cup of coffee and relax.
Health Benefits – Valentine’s Day Brownie
The good thing about the brownie (as well as being tasty), is that you can even sell it as healthy. I know, sounds crazy, but just check out the ingredients and nutrition card. Let’s quickly talk about chocolate. The healthiest types of chocolate are unsweetened baking chocolate, dark chocolate and semisweet chocolate chips (1). All of these types can be found in this brownie. The darker the chocolate the more flavanols it contains. That stuff helps to reduce the risk of heart attacks, can decrease blood pressure and might even improve arterial blood flow (2). That’s not all; most interestingly dark chocolate is considered an aphrodisiac. Well, it’s not 100% scientifically proven, but just the placebo effect should do the trick (3). On top of that you’ve just baked all by yourself for your loved one. If that doesn’t get you any action I don’t know what will. Out of curiousity: do you have any other cool recipes for your valentine?
